The research titled “Are You Involved with Youth Work? Research among professionals and volunteers involved in youth work, 2023” (in Hungarian: Foglalkozol ifjúsági munkával? Kutatás az ifjúsági munkát végző szakemberek és önkéntesek körében, 2023) was Hungary’s first research project to focus on the professional motivations of youth work professionals and their work realities.
We would like to inform all interested parties that the English-language version of the research report presenting, analysing and interpreting the survey results is now available.
We approached youth work and youth workers through the following thematic areas:
- professional values and motivations,
- needs, challenges and the future,
- as well as professional content and target-group focus.
The aim of this research report is to provide those active in youth work, responsible decision-makers, and organisations involved in professional development or professional advocacy with information that can be used in their work, and which may also serve as a basis for their plans, future programmes and decisions.
The content of this paper is an extended and expanded version of a publication originally published in Hungarian in 2023.
In addition to the original findings, the English-language edition has been complemented with a brief overview of youth work in Hungary, providing international readers with a broader understanding of the Hungarian context in which the research was conducted. As the report is published three years after data collection, we also provide an update on the current state of youth work. These additional chapters offer a concise introduction to the main characteristics, foundations and key areas of Hungarian youth work, to make the report more accessible and relevant for professionals throughout Europe and beyond.
The data and results presented in the research report should be regarded as a kind of snapshot in time, and by no means as a fixed or unchangeable state.
